The foundation of the Company

The Binolux brand was established in the United States in the 1950s. The company was founded by a group of Japanese optical manufacturers who wanted to bring their high-quality products to the American market.

Are you thinking about the name of this brand as it sounds a bit weird?  The name “Binolux” was chosen to reflect the company’s focus on binoculars and its commitment to producing products of superior quality. It was a kind of commitment of the founder toward the production of binoculars.

First Binocular Models

The first Binolux binocular models were released in the late 1950s and early 1960s. These binoculars were well-made and featured high-quality optics, making them popular among birdwatchers, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts. One of the most popular early models was the 7×50 Porro prism binocular, which featured a wide field of view and excellent light transmission.

Just after the launch of this model, the optics users got interested in this brand. Because the first binoculars were made with high quality, and the optics were also high quality, the optics industry accepted the product with an open heart.

In addition to their high-quality optics, Binolux binoculars were also known for their durability and ruggedness. Many early models featured metal bodies and rubber armor coatings, which made them resistant to damage from drops, bumps, and other impacts.

At that time, binoculars belonging to the Binolux brand were the first in the industry. No other brand used to come with such useful and practical features. Before the introduction of the Binolux brand, there was no brand producing such high-quality binoculars that are rugged and offer excellent visual performance.

Innovations and Advancements

As I researched the history of Binolux binoculars, I discovered that the brand has a rich history of innovation and advancements in the field of optics. It won’t be wrong if I say that this brand got attention because of its innovative ideas that were utilized in its binoculars. In this section, I will highlight two major advancements that Binolux made in the industry.

1- Development of Coated Optics

In the mid-20th century, Binolux was one of the first companies to develop and implement coated optics in their binoculars. Don’t you know what coated optics are? Actually, the coating refers to the process of applying a thin layer of coating to the lenses to reduce glare and improve image quality. Coated optics are usually coated with thin material to increase the transmission of light.

Before the introduction of coated optics, binoculars suffered from a lot of internal reflections and glare, which made it difficult to see clearly in bright light conditions. However, with the introduction of coated optics, Binolux binoculars were able to provide clearer and brighter images, even in bright sunlight.

Keep in mind that the Binolux brand was the first who started producing binoculars with excellent coating on the lenses. After the initiative taken by Binolux, other brands such as Leupold, and Bushnell also started applying coating on the lenses.

2- Introduction of Zoom Binoculars

Another major innovation that Binolux introduced to the industry was the zoom binoculars. In the 1960s, Binolux was one of the first companies to introduce zoom binoculars, which allowed users to adjust the magnification of the binoculars to suit their needs.

Before the introduction of zoom binoculars, users, especially army men, had to carry multiple binoculars with different magnifications to suit different viewing conditions. However, with the introduction of zoom binoculars, users could easily adjust the magnification with a simple twist of the eyepiece, making it a versatile and convenient option for outdoor enthusiasts.

The introduction of zoom binoculars revolutionized the industry and made Binolux a popular choice among the armed forces. Keep in mind that in the 1960s, binoculars were mainly used by the army. Today, zoom binoculars are a standard feature in many binoculars, and Binolux’s contribution to the industry is still recognized and appreciated.

Famous Models

As I researched the history of Binolux binoculars, I came across some famous models that caught my attention. In the section below, I will talk about the two famous models of Binolux binos which have 8×21 and 10×50 speciation.

Binolux 8×21 & Binolux 10×50

The Binolux 8×21 is a compact and lightweight binocular that was popular among hikers, bird-watchers, and travelers. It has a magnification of 8x and an objective lens diameter of 21mm, which makes it ideal for daytime use. The binocular is made of high-quality materials and features a sturdy construction that can withstand rough handling. One thing that people loved about these optics is their compact size.

On the other hand, 10×50 Binolux binoculars were more powerful, but heavier and bulkier in size. They were good to be used in low light conditions. Both 8×21 and 10×50 binoculars had a special place in the user’s heart as they met the needs and preferences of the customers.

Decline of the Binolux brand

During my research, I found that the brand’s popularity declined in the 1980s and 1990s. Although Binolux was once known for producing high-quality Japanese binoculars, the brand became associated with cheap, low-quality products which led down the company as a whole.

One reason for the decline of Binolux was the rise of other brands that offered better quality and more advanced features. Consumers became more discerning in their choices, and Binolux failed to keep up with changing preferences.

Another reason for the decline was that the company faced increased competition from other Japanese manufacturers who were able to produce similar products at lower prices.

I also believe that the company shifted its focus towards producing more promotional items, and did not care about the needs of customers. As a result, the whole brand suffered. Although promotional products helped the company in the short term, they damaged the brand’s reputation in the long run.

Despite these challenges, Binolux continues to be remembered by collectors and enthusiasts for its early contributions to the field of binocular manufacturing. While the brand is surely no longer a major player in the market, its legacy lives on in the high-quality products it once produced.

Binolux Today

Binolux is still producing binoculars, although its product line has evolved significantly since its early days. Things have changed. I know that their products are not well known.

Yes, I do agree with you. But this does not mean that their binoculars are poor quality. Infact, the brand has no marketing campaign which makes them feel down. But there are still people who love to use binoculars that have some history, and they love binoculars because of their rich history.

Brand Reputation

Binolux has a mixed reputation among binocular enthusiasts. While some praise the brand for its affordable prices and decent quality. Everyone has their own opinion about this brand. There are some people who consider influx binos as trash. But it is just their perspective.

It’s worth noting that Binolux’s reputation has evolved over time. While the brand was once known for producing low-quality binoculars, the company has made significant improvements in recent years. But one thing that you’ll agree with me is that this brand needs to work really hard to improve the brand presence among the optics users.

Conclusion

In the end, I would say that these binolux binoculars have a rich and fascinating history. People who have seen the 1960s have seen the rise and peak of this optical brand. Unfortunately, the brand has lost its shine and you won’t see their products more often now in the optics store.

I read the history of the Binolux brand and considered it interesting. So, I decided to write a full guide on giving you an introduction to this brand. Hopefully, you enjoy these old memories. I am SIGNING off now! See you again.
