History of Leupold Brand

Leupold & Stevens is a family-owned American company and is considered one of the prominent players in the optics market especially in the USA.

This brand produces multiple optics such as scopes, binoculars, red dot sight, and much other equipment that are very beneficial for the outdoor enthusiast.

The company was founded in 1907 by Markus Friedrich Leupold and his brother-in-law, Adam Volpel, under the name Leupold & Volpel.

In 1947, Leupold & Stevens introduced their first rifle scope named the Plainsman, which was the first truly fog-proof scope built by Americans. This innovation was a significant milestone for the company.

Over the years, Leupold & Stevens has continued to innovate and introduce new products to the market. In 2000, the company introduced Illuminated Reticle technology, which gave pinpoint shot placement in low-light conditions.

This introduction of the illuminated Reticle was considered an amazing innovation and almost all the hunters welcomed it. The reason was that the introduction made their scopes a very good option for use in low-light conditions.

You should also know that the company started producing and providing technical products such as scopes to the military in 1985. This production of scopes for tactical purposes also boosted the company’s revenue and made it profitable.

Leupold & Stevens is headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, and it employs approximately 700 people. It is interesting that almost all the Leupold products are made in this headquarters which is located in the USA.

Where are Leupold Scopes Made?

As I said earlier, Leupold is an American optics brand, so almost all of its products include scopes and binoculars. You should not be confused in case you’re curious about knowing the manufacturing location.

The company’s headquarters factory is located in Beaverton, Oregon, where they have been manufacturing scopes since 1968. I know that many people want to know the manufacturing location as this somehow reflects the quality of products.

Let me explain how the production location is important.

Everyone knows that products that are made in China are literally of poor quality. Similarly, products that are made in Japan are decent but not ideal. On the other hand, products made in Germany or USA are considered to be of the highest quality.

Customers can rest assured that all Leupold scopes are made in the USA. But unfortunately, there have been some counterfeit scopes that have been made in Asia. The company has taken steps to combat the production of counterfeit scopes and has been successful in doing so to some extent.

I would love to mention here that Leupold has made it clear that they do not manufacture any of their products in Asia. Therefore, customers should be cautious when purchasing Leupold scopes from unauthorized dealers or resellers.

Are there any Leupold scopes that are not made in the USA?

Recently, I came to know that there is a very hot debate among outdoor enthusiasts that some of the scopes of the Leupold brand are made in China, and Japan. I was shocked to know that this claim is literally wrong.

All Leupold scopes are made in their Beaverton, Oregon manufacturing plant. The company does not have any other manufacturing plant outside Oregon.  The company itself is from the United States, and all of its scopes are made in America.

Disclaimer: Any riflescope labeled Leupold but has no disclosure of American origin or displays made in China is likely to be fake.
